Gustavo Ayón Hernández (b. Nicaragua) is a visual artist based in Barcelona.
His work primarly investigates the overlooked layers of life through photography, found materials, and artist books. With a practice rooted in walking, collecting, and observing, he constructs visual narratives that explore presence, disappearance, and memory in different territories.
Ayón often incorporates fragments of everyday life —lost belongings, handwritten notes, surveillance footage— transforming them into poetic, research-driven works. His process embraces experimentation across media, creating installations, photobooks, and mixed archives that reflect the emotional and material traces of contemporary history.
In paralel, he also leads “Atlas Chacuatl” which is an online platform of images and texts on Instagram (@atlas.chacuatl) that serves as an archive and pinacothèque for the investigation of Nicaragua's visual culture.
As of today, he is currently based in Barcelona where he has his photographic studio and independent editorial called Ala70.
